Ecumenical Patriachate elects four new bishops for Australia

Four new assistant bishops were elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople for Australia, following a proposal by Archbishop Makarios of Australia according to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

These are the Bishop of Sozopolis, a position which will be taken by Archimandrite Kyriakos, of Magnesia by Archimandrite Christodoulos, of Kerasounta by Archimandrite Eumenios, and of Charioupolis by Archimandrite Prochoros.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew elevated the Diocese of Dervis into a Metropolis under Bishop Ezekiel.

The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate met yesterday for the second day in the Phanar, under the chairmanship of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

The Synodal Hierarchs are the following:

  • Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon
  • Dimitrios of Metres and Athyra
  • Ambrosios of Karpathos and Kasos
  • Apostolos of Militos
  • Alexios of Atlanta
  • Joseph of Proconnesus
  • Meliton of Philadelphia
  • Joseph of Buenos Aires
  • Cleopas of Sweden and all Scandinavia
  • Maximos of Selyvria
  • Makarios of Australia
  • Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos
