Speaking to TV Creta, the director of the hospital, Georgios Chalkiadakis, revealed that a vaccinated 101-year-old woman fully recovered from COVID-19 after being hospitalised.

"The majority of patients admitted to the ICU are elderly unvaccinated ," he said, adding that two COVID-19 patients, fully vaccinated but also had other underlying diseases, were admitted in hospital last week.

"All vaccinated people, even if they need hospitalisation, will have a mild illness," Chalkiadakis explained, citing an example an elderly woman who managed to be discharged thanks to her vaccination.

"Last week, a 101-year-old woman who had contracted coronavirus was discharged," he said, adding that a few days after her admission she managed to be discharged and return home.

In closing, Chalkiadakis reiterated the importance of vaccination, saying "get vaccinated, get vaccinated, get vaccinated."

"The vaccine is the only way to get immunity to the virus," he added.
