Russian Emergency Situations Minister, and former chief of President Vladimir Putin's security team, Yevgeny Zinichev, has been tragically killed during a training exercise his ministry announced.

The 55 year old minister "tragically lost his life in Norilsk during an inter-ministerial training exercise for the protection of the Arctic, while trying to save the life of a man," read the ministerial statement.

Mr. Zinichev "was at the top of a high cliff with a cameraman who slipped and fell into the water," according to an RT post by the editor-in-chief of the RT television network.

"No one realised when Zinichev fell into the water, after the cameraman who slipped was crushed on the rocks," he explained.

Zinichev was appointed Minister in 2018, and spent most of his career in the Russian security services and was in charge of Vladimir Putin's bodyguards.
