Seven female MPs escape Afghanistan and arrive in Athens

By 3 years ago

Seven female MPs from Afghanistan arrived in Athens via the Georgian capital of Tbilisi earlier on Wednesday, accompanied by their family members, according to a foreign ministry announcement.

The seven females were extricated from Afghanistan following the actions of the Zaka Khan NGO, which is based in New York.

Their arrival and stay in Greece, which is being coordinated closely between the foreign ministry and the migration and asylum ministry, is part of the government's commitment to hosting a symbolic number of Afghan citizens.

These Afghans are advocates of fundamental values, freedom of expression and equality, according to the foreign ministry.

The MPs and their family members will be hosted in Greece for a short time until the procedures for their transfer and settlement in the US are completed, according to the foreign ministry.
