Nick Kyrgios has once again hinted at early retirement. Kyrgios, 26, is trying to enjoy the Laver Cup to the fullest since he doesn't know if it's his last Laver Cup. On Saturday, Kyrgios suffered a 6-3 6-4 loss to world No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Laver Cup.
"As I said, you know, I'm not going to say it's my last Laver Cup, but I don't know how much longer I'll be around, you know, tennis, so it was just great. I took every moment in today," Kyrgios said after the Tsitsipas loss.
"As long as I'm on the court, I will try and give my best, but I'm not going to lie and say that I'm going to plan to play four or five more years on tour. That's just not me."
Early in the second set Tsitsipas paused his own service game at 15-15 and took several minutes installing new laces before ultimately deciding to put on fresh shoes given the original pair did not stand up well to the indoor surface.
Team Europe Feliciano Lopez gave the Greek his own shoelace before Tsitsipas decided to just change shoes. But the in-game trouble did not come until he served at 4-3.
Tsitsipas saved his first five break points in that game and then another at 5-4 when he served for the match, all behind clutch serving and aggressive play. The World No. 3 then finished off Kyrgios with a forehand passing shot.
"It was quite nerve-wracking," Tsitsipas said. "I did find ways to close it with the best possible way."
After the match Tsitsipas credits the "enormous talent" of Team World's Nick Kygrios.
Team Europe goes into Saturday's night session at the Laver Cup with a 7-1 lead.
The first team to 13 points this weekend wins the trophy.
