AFGHANISTAN: Taliban introduce law banning men from shaving their beards

Afghanistan's Taliban leadership has issued a ban on shaving beards in the country's southern Helmand province, local media reported yesterday.

Taliban Information and Culture Director Hafiz Rashid  told the Etilaatroz newspaper that the decision was made by Taliban religious police during a meeting with barber shop owners in the province.

In an official letter issued by the Taliban and circulating on social media, officials in the province warned barbershops of the consequences if they were found to have shaved someone's beard.

A spokesman for the Taliban did not respond to a request for comment.
