Macron: France remains on Cyprus’ side, as always

“I look forward to strengthening the relationship of trust and friendship between our two countries,” said French President Emmanuel Macron in a message to his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Anastasiadis on the anniversary of Cyprus Independence Day.

“France remains deeply committed to respecting the sovereign rights of Cyprus and to the efforts of the international community to find a comprehensive, lasting and just solution to the Cyprus issue within the framework set by the United Nations,” said Macron according to Proto Thema.

“France will stand by the Cypriots, as it has always done,” he added.

According to a statement by the Presidency of Cyprus, “in his message, the French President states that, on the occasion of the national anniversary of the independence of your country, I am pleased to express to you, on behalf of the French people and myself, the most sincere congratulations and warmest wishes for both you and for the Cypriot people.”

“I look forward to strengthening the relationship of trust and friendship between our two countries.

“In a complex international context, it is indeed important that we continue to work together on all issues of common interest in order to meet together the many challenges we face.

“We look forward to our forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will begin in January 2022, with the ambition of strengthening our economies hit by the health crisis and consolidating European sovereignty.

“I know that this ambition is met in Cyprus and that we can count on your support for our main priorities.”

At the same time, Macron notes that “you should know that France remains deeply committed to the respect of the sovereign rights of Cyprus and to the efforts of the international community to find a comprehensive, permanent and just solution to the Cyprus issue within the framework set by the United Nations.

“France will stand by the Cypriots, as it has always done,” he added.

The French president also expressed the hope that “the coming months will allow us to continue to strengthen our bilateral relations, bringing our economic relations to the level of our political partnership and further enhancing our cultural, educational and scientific exchanges, in particular in the context of the promotion of the French language in Cyprus.”

“Once again expressing my sincere wishes, please accept, Mr President, the assurance of my highest consideration,” he concluded.
