Police shoot at criminal in the centre Athens: The first images from the spot

Unbelievable scenes prevailed on Friday morning in the centre of Athens as the driver of a car that was signalled to pull over shot at police.

Police located a stolen vehicle at the junction of Aristotelous and Marnis streets, and when they signaled the driver to stop so they could check the car, he did not stop and tried to escape.

A chase ensued and the suspect eventually shot at a patrol car.

Police opened fire to stop the driver, hitting him in the leg.

Video from the scene of the incident shows the strong presence of police, while the driver is recorded on the top right lying on the sidewalk as he had been shot in the leg.

An  ambulance rushed to the spot to pick up the injured.

His state of health is unknown at this time.

According to Sputnik Hellas, the driver is said to be of Albanian origin.
