Unemployment in Greece fell to 13.9% in August

The unemployment rate in the country decreased to 13.9% in August this year, compared to 16.9% in August 2020 and the revised downwards of 14% in July 2021.

According to the ELSTAT labor force survey , the unemployed amounted to 655,644 people, recording a decrease of 128,293 people compared to August 2020 (16.4%) and 1,035 people compared to July 2021 (0.2%).

The unemployment rate for women rose to 17.2% from 21% in August 2020 and for men to 11.2% from 13.7% in August last year.

According to large age groups, the unemployment rate for 15-24 year olds rose to 33.9% from 38.8% in August last year and for 25-74 year olds to 12.9% from 15.9% in August 2020.

Employees amounted to 4,070,814 people, an increase of 226,985 people compared to August 2020 (5.9%) and 50,927 people compared to July 2021 (1.3%).

The number of people not included in the workforce or "people outside the workforce", ie people who are not working or looking for work, amounted to 3,131,793 people, a decrease of 128,326 people compared to August 2020 (3.9% ) and by 52,503 people compared to July 2021 (1.6%).
