AXION ESTI: National Opera to honour Greek Music Legend Mikis Theodorakis with his iconic work

Greece's National Opera is set to honour  Greek music legend Mikis Theodorakis, with the presentation of his emblematic work "'Axion Esti" in poetry by Odysseas Elytis, on October 29 and 31, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre.

The new performance of the work, with the Orchestra and Choir of the National Opera, will be conducted by Stathis Soulis,  and performed by soloists George Dalaras and Dimitris Platanias and narrated by George Gallos.

This will be the first event of the three-year cycle "Mikis Theodorakis" after the death of the composer and takes place in the context of the anniversary events for the 200 years of the Greek Revolution.

The production is made possible with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation  with the creation of the anniversary program of the National Opera for the 200 years since the Greek Revolution of 1821.

In the new performance of the work by the National Opera, the music direction will be have the signature by one of the most up-and-coming musicians of the younger generation, Stathis Soulis. The part of the popular singer will be performed by George Dalaras, whose relationship with Theodorakis' work spans five decades, the baritone-singer will be played by the Greek baritone Dimitris Platanias, while the actor George Gallos will hold the role of narrator.
