MARIA SAKKARI: I will have had my 3rd vaccine shot in time for the Australian Open

There has been much talk and speculation surrounding the potential exclusion of non-vaccinated players for the Australian Open, which could see players like Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas miss out from the prestigious tournament if implemented.

However, Greek tennis star Maria Sakkari has no issue as she confirmed to be fully vaccinated since March and will have had her third shot by the time of the Australian Open.

"I think it will not be like this year's Australian Open, at least I hope so. We hear that things will be different for the vaccinated players, I have been fully vaccinated since March. I will have done the third dose by then!

"I think Tennis Australia will do its best and we will not quarantine again for two weeks. We do not know the rules yet, but I do not think it will be the same." said Sakkari in yesterday's press conference, after qualifying for the quarterfinals of the VTB Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

26-year-old Sakkari became the first Greek player to qualify for the WTA Finals with this victory: "It was an important match for me and I knew it. I achieved one of the biggest goals I had for this year and that satisfies me. I am proud of myself and my team. We did it and it is the first time that a Greek woman qualified for the event."
