Australian Open could allow unvaccinated players to participate in the tournament

According to a leaked email, unvaccinated tennis players will be allowed to play in the Australian Open, contrary to the comments from the Victorian state government as reported by Skynews.

Premier Daniel Andrews had said he did not believe those who are unvaccinated will get a visa to participate in the tournament.

The email sets out clearly, those who, by December 1, are not double dosed with a COVID-19 vaccine can still arrive in Victoria but will be subjected to hard hotel quarantine measures.

Players must provide a negative COVID test within 72 hours before departure and submit to regular testing upon arrival.

World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas has virtually committed to January’s Australian Open, describing any potential limitations imposed on unvaccinated tennis stars, including quarantine, as fair.

However, Greek tennis star Maria Sakkari has no issue as she confirmed to be fully vaccinated since March and will have had her third shot by the time of the Australian Open.

“I think it will not be like this year’s Australian Open, at least I hope so. We hear that things will be different for the vaccinated players, I have been fully vaccinated since March. I will have done the third dose by then!
