Multi-award winning Greek filmmaker Vassilis Mazomenos has commenced pre-production on his 10th feature film entitled PURGATORY, a surrealistic drama about love.
PURGATORY is the third film in the 'trilogy of crisis' by Mazomenos, following Lines and Exile and tells seven stories of extreme love, with their heroes seeking to be purified through it:
A monk leads a procession in an attempt to open a temple, which authorities have closed due to a pandemic.
A young girl, a victim of abandonment and exploitation, is rescued from prostitution when her lost father reappears.
A young man, the offspring of a wealthy family, becomes a perpetrator of incidents with police officers, unjustifiably injuring a woman.
A female police officer, who lives alone, decides to take advantage of the dementia of an old man, convincing him that he is her father.
A couple tries to regain their broken relationship ending up in their loneliness.
A civil servant receives the wrath of a woman who lost her husband out of his indifference.
A middle-aged man takes out secretly his closest friend, who has cancer, from the hospital to give him a beautiful end by the sea.
PURGATORY is written and directed by Vasilis Mazomenos, co-written with Vassilis Goudelis, with cinematography by Fotis Mitsis, editing by Giannis Katsaboulas, produced by Vassilis Mazomenos and Panos Papadopoulos, with Vassilis Alatas as co-producer.

Mazomenos is a multi award winning Greek filmmaker, writer, director, producer with 26 wins and 42 nominations from prestigious film festivals including the Montréal World Film Festival, Scandinavian International Film Festival, Sitges - Catalonian International Film Festival, the Hellenic Film Academy Awards and the Thessaloniki Film Festival to name a few. He is a member of both the European Film Academy and the Hellenic Film Academy.
