SYRIZA to push for compulsory COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated to attend church

Greek Orthodox Church masks COVID-19 SYRIZA

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance will table an amendment that mandates the requirement of a negative COVID-19 test result for public access into churches, the main opposition party's parliamentary representative Nikos Pappas told Parliament on Wednesday.

The former SYRIZA minister was speaking during a plenary debate on road safety.

Churches are one of the only three places - together with pharmacies and supermarkets - that will not require a test for entry, according to new government measures going into effect on Saturday.

Pappas expressed indignation that churches have not been included in the new measure, and he cited party leader Alexis Tsipras who said that "it is not fair that Greece is agonisingly counting its dead while New Democracy is counting votes."
