Greek PM wishes Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew a speedy recovery following angioplasty procedure

Greece's Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his warm wishes for the full and speedy recovery of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in a post on social media on Thursday.

Bartholomew was scheduled to return to Istanbul on Wednesday after a 12-day visit to the US, but felt unwell and was hospitalised.

After the Patriarch complained of chest pains and discomfort he was immediately admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York for an angiogram and later underwent angioplasty with stents successfully implanted.

Earlier, Patriarch Bartholomew had a meeting with the newly elected mayor of New York, Eric Adams where he had the opportunity to talk about human rights, racial discrimination and police violence.

His US visit included a ceremonial blessing and inauguration on Monday of the newly constructed St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church & National Shrine that replaced the original church that was destroyed on 9/11 at the World Trade Centre.
