More than 700 cruise ships are expected to arrive at the port of Piraeus in 2022 according to The Piraeus Port Authority (PPA).

The estimates are based on the reservations of the year 2022, for the more than 700 cruise ships of which more than 60% concern boarding arrivals (homeport) in Piraeus. It is noted that in 2019, before the start of the pandemic, 622 cruise ships were served.

The dynamic restart of the cruise ship industry comes after a recovery rate of about 60% was achieved in 2021, compared to 2019, in terms of the number of cruise ships.

In 2020 there was a decrease of 88% compared to 2019 due to the pandemic. For 2022, an increase of 18% is expected compared to 2019. At the same time, in 2022, new arrivals expected in the port of Piraeus, include companies such as Virgin Cruises and the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. It is pointed out that about 60% concern homeport cruises, which contribute positively to the local and national economy.

PPA President Yu Zengang welcomed the resumption of cruises, stressing:

"The immediate and rapid restart of the cruise industry reflects the capabilities and high quality services offered by the port of Piraeus, the support it offered cruise companies during the pandemic, and of course its positioning as a unique hub.

"It is certain that with the end of the pandemic, the port of Piraeus will once again become one of the best ports in the Mediterranean and Europe and will further strengthen the Greek tourism industry in Europe. "
