Events in Athens on Greek Armed Forces Day on Sunday; statement by HNDS Chief Floros

Greek Armed Forces Day

The Christian feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, also Greek Armed Forces Day, will be celebrated with specific events held in Athens on Sunday, November 21. 

- At 08:00 the Greek flag will be ceremoniously raised at the Acropolis

- At 10:00 a liturgy will be held at the church of Aghios Dimitrios in central Athens

- At 11:00 President Katerina Sakellaropoulou will lay a wreath at the Unknown Soldier monument at parliament’s forecourt

- At precisely 17:09, at sunset, the Greek flag will be ceremoniously lowered at the Acropolis

"The Armed Forces are the powerful, decisive and deterrent force that effectively guards both Greek and European borders on land, sea and air, making our country an oasis of security and stability in the troubled region of the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean. Guardians of the Homeland and eternal guardians of western civilization! This is exactly what the Armed Forces always was, is and will forever remain," said Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDS) General Konstantinos Floros.
