Dionysis Xenos: 5th highest ranked karate fighter in the world

Dionysis Xenos made an excellent appearance at the 25th World Karate Championship in Dubai and won 5th place.

He was defeated by the Japanese fighter Soichiro 5-4 in the -67k category.

The 26-year-old champion completed the World Cup with 5 wins and 2 losses, defeating fighters from Lithuania, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Ukraine and Bulgaria).

He also lost to Olympic gold medallist and No. 1 in the World Rankings, Frenchman Steven Da Costa.

The president of ELOK, Theodoros Sietis, sent his own message to the athletes who represented the country.

"Congratulations to all the representatives and their coaches for the very good presence and the strong matches they gave at the World Championship," he said.

"The level of the organisation was very high and in most categories our athletes won several victories.

"The presence of the national team was completed with the 5th place of Dionysis Xenos, which is a significant success."
