Greek Rural Development and Food Minister tests positive to Covid-19 days before booster shot

Greece's Rural Development and Food Minister Spilios Livanos has tested positive for COVID-19, according to his own pronouncement on social media on Monday.

"As we all know, coronavirus does not discriminate. It knocked on my door just two days before my scheduled appointment for my third vaccine dose.  According to the health protocols, for the next few days I will be working from home. I am optimistic and convinced that vaccination will allow me to get back to normal soon. I wish all those who experience a similar experience, to overcome it quickly and painlessly."  wrote the Minister on his personal facebook page.

Spilios Livanos was born in Athens on September 20, 1967, to Dionysis Livanos and Aliki Kyriakidou.

He studied Economics and Political Science at the University Amherst in Massachusetts, USA and continued his postgraduate studies in International Relations and Comparative Political Analysis at the University of Reading)in England.

He worked at the European Commission and in Greece as an executive of Corporate Development of private companies. Subsequently, he founded a company for the development of private construction projects and real estate management with activities in Greece and abroad.

In 2007 he was elected MP for the first time in the prefecture of Etoloakarnania.

In 2009 he took over the position of Deputy Secretary of Political Planning of the New Democracy political party and in 2013 was appointed its Secretary of Political Planning.

Immediately after the election of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the presidency of New Democracy he was appointed Entrepreneurship Advisor to Mr Mitsotakis.

At the national elections of July 7, 2019, he was re-elected Member of Parliament for Etoloakarnania with the Prime Minister assigning him as Parliamentary Representative of New Democracy.

He speaks English and French and is married to Domna Kyrzopoulou, a lawyer, with whom he has three children: Dionysis, Danae and Aliki.
