At a time when the outbreak of COVID-19 on Mount Athos is in a gradual decline after the high rates of the last weeks, the fact that despite the calls for vaccination of all monks and priests, 70% are still unvaccinated.

As a monk who also acts as a secretary in "Perivoli tis Panagias" told Proto Thema, only working people have been vaccinated in their entirety, while only 30% of the monks have completed both doses of their vaccination.

"Here and in a few days, the cases seem to be reduced, but only 30% of the monks have been vaccinated," he said.

"In the hospital we have four fathers in a difficult situation in the ICU. Since June, when the doors of Mount Athos were opened to the public after the quarantine, we have not closed at all.

"The entrance of the faithful until today is done with a test in Ouranoupolis. No vaccination certificate is required, we do not have such an instruction, only a negative rapid test.

“In the monasteries things are easier because as soon as the case is identified it is isolated.
