Erdoğan is trying to divert public attention away from the Turkish lira and onto Greece

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is trying to divert public attention away from the serious livelihood problems that a large portion of the population in Turkey has because of the declining Turkish lira by accusing Greece of “aggressive actions and aggressive rhetoric.”

This was said at yesterday’s meeting of the National Security Council, which for the first time in its history dealt with economic issues.

The collapse of the national currency has created an unprecedented and great social outcry in the country.

In the announcement after the end of the meeting, Ankara turned its fire against Greece, with a particularly inflammatory tone, claiming that Athens: “Does not apply the terms of good neighbourliness”, “violates the terms of International Treaties” and that this “will negatively affect the stability and tranquility of the region”.

However, Erdoğan’s attempt to divert interest is likely to have no effect on the majority of Turkish society, which is seeing its income drop dramatically day by day.

The results of a new poll by Metropoll are a “slap in the face” for Erdoğan as 54.5% of respondents do not approve of the way he exercises his presidency.

39.3% said they approved and 6.2% did not want to answer.

It is interesting that the research was carried out before last Tuesday when the exchange rate of the Turkish lira “sank”.

Despite the suggestions of his associates and leading economists, the Turkish president continues to insist on a policy of low interest rates and the faithful implementation of his financial program, claiming that in 3 to 4 months the problems will have been overcome.

According to reports, the Turkish president met with close associates at the party headquarters, discussing economic developments and reiterating his belief in the policy of low interest rates, while discussing moves to prevent high exchange rates so that the positive reflections of the model can be soon seen.

Opposition media, for their part, are talking about an Erdoğan who is endangering the country,

The pro-government press is strongly promoting the “aid” of $10 billion dollars from the United Arab Emirates, emphasising that they will help stabilise the situation and prevent a further devaluation of the Turkish lira.

The government’s optimism, however, is not shared by the opposition media, which accuse Erdoğan of… cubism with former “enemies”, such as the UAE, in order to save his throne.
