The response of citizens over the age of 60 seems to be positive after Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that those who do not get vaccinated for COVID-19 by the middle of January will be fined €100 per month until they are vaccinated.
As revealed by the Secretary General of Coordination of the Government, Thanasis Kontogeorgis, the first installment appointments in less than 24 hours since the announcements made by Mitsotakis on Tuesday have increased sevenfold.
Specifically, from the point where the daily number of first dose appointments in this age group did not exceed 2,600 per day, since yesterday at noon, more than 17,500 appointments have been made, increasing this number sevenfold within a few hours.
Kontogeorgis clarified that at least the first dose should have been made by January 16 in order not to fined €100 per month.
Those who choose not to book their appointment until January 16, as announced by the Prime Minister, will be fined €100. However, the specific amount for the first month is expected to be €50 since it will be calculated as half a month.
People who were born before December 31, 1961 are obliged to be vaccinated.
From there on, for each following month the fine will amount to €100.
