The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has issued a series of stamps through Australia Post, commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.

The series comprises four stamps, which depict four heroic clerical figures of our Orthodox Church, who fought for the freedom of our homeland.

The faces depicted on the stamps are portraits created by the Greek Australian artist, Ms Angela Konstantinopoulos.

Depicted on the stamps are the following four Church figures of the time:

  • Patriarch Gregory V, ethnomartyr and saint of the Orthodox Church,
  • Metropolitan Paleon Patron Germanos,
  • Bishop Isaiah of Salona, and
  • Archimandrite Grigorios Dikaios-Flessas (Papaflessas).

Those who are interested may purchase the anniversary stamps from Australian Post Offices as well as from the bookstores of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia Archdiocese of Sydney and Melbourne, and will soon be available for purchase online.
