President Anastasiadis: Turkish Cypriots have more to share with Greek Cypriots than with Turkey

"Unfortunately, despite our efforts, Turkey's goal remains unchanged and is manifested and implemented through specific actions as recorded recently, whether they concern interventions in the EEZ [Exclusive Economic Zone] or the lifting of the status quo in Famagusta or the further militarisation of Cyprus with the threats we hear or the new position of two states they claim for the solution to Cyprus," said the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiadis.

In his greeting at the Annual General Assembly of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anastasiadis referred - among other things - to the Cyprus issue, sending a message to Turkish-speaking Cypriot compatriots.

"It is time for them to understand that they have much more to share with the Greek Cypriots than with Turkey," stressed Anastasiadis.

"We have given written examples of our determination and political will through concrete and often reprehensible concessions that we have made in order to pass the message that we want peaceful coexistence, we finally want to create those conditions that will allow us to move forward together.

"The crises we have been faced with in recent years have highlighted the importance of adopting a targeted strategy in order to diversify our growth model, strengthen traditional productive sectors and continue the strong recovery and dynamics of our economy, which is growing faster than ever and the European Union average."
