Pope Francis has arrived in Greece

The Prelate of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, arrived at the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens at about 11AM local time.

On behalf of the government, he was received at the Athens International Airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.

The two will have a short meeting in an airport lounge shortly after.

The Pope was welcomed at the aircraft stairs by two children, a girl from the Philippines and one boy from Africa, dressed in traditional Greek costumes.

He is accompanied by about 80 journalists.
