Michaela Laki: 16-year-old Greek tennis sensation enters the Top 1000

Michaela Laki, who on Monday made her first entry in the Top 1000 in the world ranking, continues her upward course after winning $15,000 when she emerged the winner of Lyttos Beach in Heraklion, climbing to No. 964 in the WTA.

The 16-year-old Michaela, who is ranked No. 21 in the U18 world girls rankings, reached two quarterfinals and won a title - her first in a professional tournament - in the three weeks she competed in the Lyttos Beach tournament.

She jumped 226 places, moving from No. 1190 to No. 964.

Her previous position was also career high, as she came from an also significant rise, from No. 1285, which she stood at only two weeks ago.

Michaela is the 6th Greek tennis player to enter the Top 1000 of the WTA.

Obviously the top is Maria Sakkari, who is at No. 6 in the world.

In the Top 200 there is also Despina Papamichail at No. 183 and Valentini Grammatikopoulou at No. 184.

Sapfo Sakellaridi is at No. 603 and Martha Matoula at No. 793.
