Evia: Unvaccinated priest and father of five died of COVID-19

The death of Father Nikolaos Vernezos of the Monastery of Agios Prokopios in Evia caused immense sadness in Prokopi, Evia.

The 42-year-old priest was hospitalised with COVID-19 at the Hippocratic Hospital in Athens but passed away on Wednesday morning.

According to eVima, the priest was a father of five and unvaccinated.

"Our Municipality mourns the loss of a young and charismatic man, a Father who honoured the priesthood and in his short life left an indelible mark on our local community," said the mayor of Mantoudi Lake Agia Anna, George Tsapourniotis.

"On behalf of the entire Municipal Council, I express my warm condolences to his family," he added.

The procession took place on Thursday morning at the Monastery of Agios Prokopios.
