UPDATE: All Metro lines reopen following bomb scare.
The entire Athens Metro system was closed by police orders following a bomb threat.
A phone call was made claiming that a bomb was placed at Monastiraki and Syntagma stations, where the Metro Operation Control Centre is located.
Initially, the police evacuated only the two specific stations, but a few minutes ago announced that the metro lines 2 and 3 are completely closed and there will be no services, as it is required to evacuate the Control Centre, which is located in Syntagma.
Consequently, lines 2 and 3 were completely closed as the Control Centre could not operate the schedule.
In Line 1, the former electric railway, routes were initially operated in the sections Piraeus-Thiseio and Omonia-Kifissia.
Shortly before 17.30, the police announced that Line 1 traffic was restored in its entirety.
