The parents of a 15-year-old teenager from Volos were sentenced to one year in prison for beating her because she did not get an English degree.

The one year prison sentence was suspended for three years.

The 15-year-old after the incident, which took place last Thursday, sent a message to an NGO asking for help.

The case reached the police and took the path of prosecution.

In her message, the 15-year-old wrote, among other things, "I am afraid, I have been abused".

With the intervention of the Prosecutor, both parents were arrested and prosecuted for bodily harm against a minor, and thus narrowly avoided prison.

On Friday, they were found in the Autophorous Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Volos.

In their testimony, both parents claimed that their daughter was reactive due to adolescence and that when they told her that they wanted her to study to get an English degree, she insulted them.

For her part, the prosecutor warned them to be especially careful with their child at this critical age as the intense pressure she may feel could lead her to even leave home and expose her to greater dangers, according to The Newspaper.

At the same time, the Prosecutor ordered an investigation into the living conditions of the 15-year-old, while a preliminary examination was ordered to determine whether other criminal acts of the same nature have been committed.
