The contract for the modernisation and upgrading of the airport of Chios was signed on Tuesday at the Infrastructure and Transport Ministry.
This was signed in the presence of Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis , Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi and Deputy Infrastructure Minister Giorgos Karagiannis.
The works at Omiros Airport on the island will kick off in early 2022.
The upgrade includes an extension of the landing runway, improvement of the existing runway and all the necessary technical works to make Omiros Airport a "gem for the island so it enhances tourism and the island's economy".
The project's budget is 24.7 million euros and it is scheduled to be completed in 32 months.
Karamanlis stated that the modernisation, extension and improvement of the airport of Chios is another project that, when completed, is expected to boost tourism and the local economy.
