Montenegrin President Đukanović tests positive for COVID-19

Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović tested positive for COVID-19 after coming in contact with an outbreak of the disease, his office announced on Thursday night.

"The president has mild symptoms and is feeling well," reads the announcement posted on the presidency's website.

"Based on the epidemiological measures, he will remain in self-isolation and will perform his presidential duties," the statement added.

Đukanović, 59, has led Montenegro for three decades, either as president or as prime minister.

He is expected to run for re-election in the 2023 elections.

So far in Montenegro, a country of 620,000 people, has a massive 161,944 cases reported and 2,385 people have died.
