The helmet - a symbol of Sparta, which was at the junction at the exit of the city, was repatriated to the place from where it had been stolen on Tuesday night.

The perpetrators, seemingly afraid that they would be discovered, returned the stolen helmet without any damages.

The helmet was found by  police on the banks of the Evrotas Magoulitsa tributary on Wednesday morning.

It seems that the perpetrators did not intend to sell it for scrap metal - after all, which scrap trader would take the risk of taking it?

The mayor of Sparta, Petros Doukas, who had offered 1,000 euros to anyone who had information on where the helmet, expressed his satisfaction and thanks to the Laconia Police Department for the immediate location of the helmet.

The preliminary investigation, however, continues to identify those who stole it, Proto Thema reported.
