On the hill of Lycabettus, against the backdrop of the bright lights of the city, the Municipality of Athens said goodbye to 2021 and welcomed the new year with a spectacular spectacle, full of light and sparkle.

In the last minutes of the year, the historic hill was transformed into an impressive outdoor scene hosted by the Greek star, Sakis Rouvas.

The artist, accompanied by a 17-member orchestra, consisting of excellent musicians and soloists, "travelled" Athens around the world, sending messages of joy and optimism for the year that has just begun.

Favourite songs and festive melodies were presented in original jazz performances, in the spirit of the New Year celebration.

The event staged by the Municipality of Athens was broadcast by ERT1 TV and the digital platform of ERT, ertflix.gr, who transferred the image of the Greek capital to every part of Greece, but also via the internet to the Greek diaspora.

Shortly before midnight, Sakis Rouvas invited the mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis, and the Children's Choir of the "Ark of the World" to the stage to welcome 2022 together.

"We say goodbye to another difficult year. Not just for us, but for the whole world. A year with many and painful losses, insecurity and fear. Life, however, is greater than its sufferings. And this New Year marks a new beginning. So let's do it with optimism, hope and faith. To wish above all, Health. Strength, Love, Solidarity and Mutual Respect.

May we all be well. And in 2022 to take the "breath" that we need so much! ", Said the Mayor of Athens Costas Bakogiannis, welcoming the new year.

Immediately after, under the sounds of the melody "The old-time is gone", the Attic sky "flooded" fireworks. We wish everyone, the new year to generously give us what we need most: Health, endurance, light, hope and a smile!
