Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), has accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of inciting a civil war.
"This nation will not accept it. "There will be no bloodshed in the streets so that you and your people can live in palaces," said Kılıçdaroğlu, after President Erdogan had threatened to teach his opponents in Turkey a lesson and "chase them wherever they go" in the event of protests.
Attempting to link any potential protests against him with the failed military coup Erdogan said on television, that "just as this nation taught a lesson to those who took to the streets on July 15, so you will learn exactly the same lesson."
On the night of July 15, 2016, the military attempted a coup against the Erdogan government. Erdogan called on the people to resist the coup by taking to the streets. As a result, more than 250 people were killed and thousands injured before the coup was called off.
