Authorities in Cyprus have announced that all passengers aged 12 and over, regardless of their vaccination status, who enter the country starting from January 14 will be able to show the results of a PCR test performed within 72 hours before their departure or a rapid antigen test taken in the 24 hours before their departure.
Such a proposal that includes the amendment of the Ministry of the Transport, Communications and Work Ministry has been approved by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, obliging persons who plan to enter Cyprus to present a negative result of the Coronavirus PCR test.
In addition, authorities in Cyprus have announced that from January 14, all travellers aged 12 and over, regardless of their vaccination status, are eligible to choose between a PCR or antigen test before their departure.
The requirement to undergo a PCR test upon arrival at Cyprus’ airports is still kept in place for all travellers aged 12 and older, regardless of their vaccination status. Each traveller has to pay the test cost, which costs €15 in Larnaca airport and €19 in Paphos airport.
In addition, all persons aged 12 and older are required to take a rapid test 72 hours before their arrival. Travellers who have taken the booster dose of the vaccine against the Coronavirus are exempted from this decision.
Authorities in Cyprus have registered a total of 208,559 cases of Coronavirus infection and 661 deaths since the start of the pandemic, based on the data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Besides, the same source shows that over 30,800 cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered in Cyprus in the last seven days, while 20 people have died.
Such figures have led authorities in Cyprus to tighten their preventive measures in order to halt another upsurge in the number of infections.
The report showed that a large number of European countries belong to the red list, which consists of territories highly affected by the Coronavirus situation.
