Greece is extending its Covid-19 restrictions by one week, until January 23, the Health Ministry announced on Wednesday.
The measures, which took effect on January 3 to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country, were expected to be lifted on January 16.
The ministry made the announcement following the recommendations of the country’s health committee.
The following Covid-19 measures have been extended in Greece:
– Entertainment venues (restaurants, cafes and bars) close at midnight. They are open only for vaccinated customers who must be seated (standing customers are not allowed). A maximum of 6 people may sit at a table.
– Sports stadiums are allowed to operate at only 10 per cent capacity, with a cap on 1,000 spectators.
– Increased protection masks (KN95/FFP2) or double masks are mandatory for workers in F&B establishments and hospitals, as well as for people using public transport and shoppers in supermarkets.
– Visitors at hospitals and nursing homes must present a negative Covid-19 PCR test performed at least 48 hours earlier.
– School trips have been suspended.
– Teleworking has increased to 50 per cent for staff in both public and private sectors.
Greek health authorities on Wednesday announced 24.246 new coronavirus cases, 670 patients on ventilators and 77 deaths.
