The Universal Service Fund (USD), a subsidiary of Pakistan's Information Technology Ministry, has let up on the ultimate Freudian Slip, admitting that they cannot launch telecom projects in Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir because those regions are constitutionally not a part of the country.
According to News18, the USD in a letter said that due to these regions not being constitutionally a part of Pakistan, cellular mobile companies could object to the utilisation of the amount generated in Pakistan there.
The outlet reported that Indian intelligence sources said the situation exposes Pakistan's hypocrisy regarding Gilgit-Balistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and that it is "time for people of both regions to understand and stand up for their cause."
None-the-less, the chief minister of Gilgit-Balistan urged the USF to extend its services to the region and asked the agency to start as soon as possible to improve internet connectivity in the mountainous area.
The Pakistan government had hoped that a spectrum auction for Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in September for next-generation mobile services would help considerably improve telecom and broadband services in these areas.
Improved telecom and broadband services in these areas means that the Pakistani military can also better coordinate with jihadist groups that can operate in the region against India.
This comes as the United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP)’s Central Secretary and Director for Committee on Foreign Affairs (Brussels and Eastern Europe) recently wrote to Chair Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament, David McAllister and President of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen regarding appointments of extremist elements in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir Government.
The letter also cited the specific case of an associate of a Pakistan Army General bagging an important post in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir administration after flouting local rules.
Irfan Ashraf was appointed as Director-General Kashmir Cultural Academy despite being seen openly threatening the public with weapons and accompanied by Talibani terrorists during elections in POJK, said Just Earth News.
UKPNP in the letter also mentioned other extremist appointments in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir by the Imran government. The group mentioned about Mazhar Saeed who was given a ticket for elections of the local legislature of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party.
Notably, Saeed earlier has been associated with the Tahreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the banned organisation in Pakistan which has claimed multiple terror attacks in the country including the Peshawar Army School attack in 2014 that killed over a hundred children.
With the ever intensification of Islamism in Pakistan, it can only be expected that the government wants strong internet and cellular connections in the mountainous regions to continue their jihadist operations against India.
