Greek Schools and students excel in HSC exams

HSC NSW ATAR Greek

2020 was a challenging year, followed by 2021, that felt as if it needed to ‘one-up’ its predecessor. Year 12s were prime victims of these cyclonic years; their education whipped into a whirlpool of uncertainty.

These students were the first to endure COVID lockdowns during Year 11 and Year 12. They missed out on face-to-face learning in 2021 during Term 3 and Term 4 and even had trial examinations online. The November HSC exams were delayed by a month and the HSC results, plus the ATAR, were consequently also delayed. Many of the students were overburdened with stress and anticipation to complete the arduous school year. Students had to overcome many hurdles, suffer much hardship and give up so much.

St Spyridon College

Despite all this, the St. Spyridon Year 12 Class of 2021 results were phenomenal. St. Spyridon College ranked 79th in New South Wales (top 12%), with 23 students obtaining at least one Band 6 and 71 Band 6s altogether. As a first for Saint Spyridon College, 17 students got a Band 6 throughout all levels of English, and the school’s first-ever 99.95 ATAR was achieved by Vice-Captain Billy Bourdaniotis (which was achieved by only 47 other students out of 70,000). Furthermore, College Captain, Mary Diamond came first in the entire state for Music 1, and Year 11 student Stephen Koutoulogenis placed fourth in the state for Modern Greek Extension. We all congratulate them on such astronomical achievements.
