A water tornado appeared near the Greek island of Skopelos in the western Aegean Sea. In the recording captured by the witness, you can see how hard the snow is pouring down and the funnel is spinning.

A water tornado formed on Monday near the Greek island of Skopelos. The rotating funnel was captured on the recording by one of the witnesses of this phenomenon. It was also snowing heavily on the island.

– It looked like a tornado. It was snowing and the wind formed this phenomenon – said Spyros Patsis, the author of the recording. Snowfall is rare in the Sporades, he added.

A water tornado is a short-lived phenomenon, weaker than a whirlwind. It forms above a relatively warm reservoir when much cooler air flows over it

Greece under the snow. Closed schools, communication paralysis

Elpis, a strong atmospheric front that brought heavy snowfall, passed through Greece. Many islands in the Aegean Sea, as well as in Athens, have become white. Due to difficult weather conditions, trains and buses in the capital were suspended. Schools were also closed.

The violent weather also disrupted air traffic, transport and COVID-19 vaccination. Drivers who dared to take to the streets on Monday got stuck in traffic jams.
