ELPIDA: The Chinese woman who sings Paparizou’s Mazi Sou in Greek and goes viral (VIDEO)

Helena Paparizou has fans all over the world, even in distant China!

A YouTuber named Wagen Wu, who has adopted the name Elpida (Hope in Greek), uploaded to her channel the Greek stars song “Mazi sou,” which the Chinese woman sings in Greek.

The Chinese woman attends the Department of Greek Studies at Peking University and uploaded a video clip, with her own version going viral.

In the video description, she writes in Greek: “The official video clip for the song Mazi Sou (Together) by Helena Paparizou is finally here, which is a beautiful love song.

“Despite the difficulties I encountered during my interpretation, I finally succeeded! I hope you like my song and performance!”

The Greek singer  (born 31 January 1982) is a Swedish-born singer, songwriter and television personality.

Born and raised in Sweden to Greek parents, she enrolled in various arts schools before launching a career in Sweden in 1999 as a member of the laïko (Greek folk music) and Eurodance duo Antique, who participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001.

Being a part of this contest launched her to stardom.

Antique disbanded in 2003, and Paparizou signed a solo recording contract with Sony Music, releasing the chart-topping debut single “Anapandites Kliseis” and album Protereotita (2004), with emphasis on laïko, pop, and dance sounds.

At first first it only had modest sales.

In 2005, she represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “My Number One”, which she won.

It was the first Greek win in the contest’s history and transformed her career.

Her album was subsequently certified double platinum by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry of Greece.

Paparizou’s biggest hit to date is An Me Dis Na Kleo ballad song feat Anastasios Rammos released in 2017 exceeding 30 million views on YouTube.
