CYCLADES STORM: Santorini like you've never seen it before (PHOTOS)

Bad weather has smashed the Cyclades islands with storms, hail and stormy winds and has left its strong imprint, particularly on Santorini.

The situation is difficult in areas near the airport.

The hail, however, also affected the airport directly, with workers trying to remove hail from the premises in time to avoid problems.

Meanwhile, municipality workers have taken to the streets with machinery and are trying to clear the hail to keep flights open.

The temperature also remains very low levels, with the mercury not exceeding 1-2 degrees in the morning.

Students were removed from the schools by order of the mayor.

The removal of students from schools was decided by the municipal authority, due to severe weather conditions.

An announcement of the Municipality of Thira stated the following:

"Due to the extreme weather phenomena that prevail from this morning, Thursday, February 3 and affected specific areas of our island, by order of the Mayor, the gradual, timely and safe removal of students from schools took place."

Ships in the port of Piraeus bound for the islands of the Cyclades remained docked on Thursday due to strong winds reaching up 9 on the Beaufort scale.

The ferry routes from the port of Rafina to the Cyclades islands, and the routes from the port of Lavrio to Kea and Kythnos were also cancelled.

Passengers planning to travel should contact local port authorities or their travel agents before setting off.
