Greece has led the parade, as is customary, at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games which started on Friday in the Chinese capital.
The remaining countries will enter based on the alphabetical order of the Chinese alphabet.
Italy (as the next Winter Olympic Games host nation) and the host country China will enter last.
Greek athletes lead the athletes’ parade at each Olympic Games regardless of its alphabetical order simply because Greece is the place where the Games were born in ancient times– and where the Modern Olympics were resurrected.
The two athletes carrying the Greek national flag during the opening ceremony were Maria Danou, who will compete in cross country skiing, and Ioannis Antoniou, in the slalom.
There will be five Greek athletes competing in the Beijing Winter Olympics; with Maria-Eleni Tsiovolou who will compete in Alpine skiing, and cross country skiers Nefeli Tita and Apostolos Angelis completing the team in addition to the aforementioned flag bearers.
