COVID-19: Number of Cases, Deaths falls in Greece

The number of new COVID-19 infections and deaths in Greece seems to be falling compared to the high figures of last week.

On Saturday, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) announced 16,023 new cases and 72 deaths, while 567 patients are intubated. Almost half of the cases were reported a month ago.

EODY in its daily report provides more detailed data both for the current cases and in general for the course of the coronavirus in the country.

The laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases recorded in the last 24 hours were 16,023, of which 48 were identified after examinations at the country’s entry points.

Almost one in five have been infected

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 2,036,869  — almost one in five — (daily change + 0.8%), of which 49.8 per cent are men.

Based on the confirmed cases of the last seven days, 388 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,728 are related to an already known case.

In the last 24 hours, 72 new deaths were recorded, reaching a total of 23,999 since the beginning of the pandemic, with 95.1 per cent of them suffering from an underlying disease or being 70 years old and over.

According to the data from the EODY report, Greece had:

One death of a person aged 20 to 29 years old, one death of a person aged 40 to 49 years, eight aged 50 to 59, 10 deaths of people aged 60-69 years, 13 deaths of people aged 70-79 years, 31 deaths of people 80 to 89 years and eight deaths of people over 90 years old.
