UNBELIEVABLE: Passenger rescued on the Euroferry Olympia was also on the Norman Atlantic ferry fire

A passenger of the Euroferry Olympia described the shocking moment he experienced when getting off from the burning ship.

What makes the story of Epamineondas Karapiperis more shocking is that fate played with his life again as he was also among the survivors of Norman Atlantic.

The Norman Atlantic ferry, owned by Italian company Visemar di Navigazione, caught on fire on December 28, 2014 in the Strait of Otranto in the Adriatic Sea.

Speaking to reporters days ago, he stressed, among other things, that "the good thing is that there was no panic."

"The crew, the Greeks and Italians, was very calm," Karapiperis said, adding: "Thank God everything went well."

Referring to the tragedy of Norman Atlantic, he stressed that "the fire was much bigger and there was bad weather."

"I was rescued after two days with the help of a helicopter," he told Greek television.

"I was without water and food for two days and I prayed," Karapiperis added.

"When I got on the boat I said fortunately it was all over," he said

Meanwhile, fire service rescuers expanded a search on Monday inside the burning Euroferry Olympia, which is anchored off Corfu.

The fire on the Italian-flagged Euroferry Olympia is burning for a fourth day but rescuers have gained more expanded access inside the 183-metre (600 foot) vessel after containing the blaze and are desperately searching for the 10 unaccounted for passengers.

The body of a Greek man was discovered inside the ship on Sunday and a total of 281 people were rescued.

The rescued include two men who were airlifted by rescuers off the ferry.

A third man managed to free himself and reach the deck of the vessel after being trapped in it for more than two days.
