Ampeli restaurant in the heart of Fitzrovia, just north of Soho and near bustling Oxford Street has become a hit among Londoners!
The modern eatery specialises in Greek wines from Crete, Attica, Santorini, Kavala, Patra, Samos, and the Peloponnese, and features fresh dishes inspired by the Mediterranean.
Athens-born founder Jenny Pagoni and her team have sourced wine from Greek producers creating a stir in the country’s wine scene, and it has been curated by Greek Master of Wine Yiannis Karakasis, under the name of ‘The Indigenous List’.
The Head Chef Oren Goldfeld who has previously worked at Nopi, Brother Marcus and Tel Aviv’s acclaimed Toto restaurant lead a talented team, who all work closely with Pagoni to bring plates inspired by the Aegean and her favourite family recipes to London.
Some of the standouts on the menu include Trahanas, braised and grilled January King cabbage, lovage pesto, almonds, Grilled lamb chops with Baharat and skordalia, red onion, herb salad; Onglet Shish with charred broccoli, potato a la plancha and caramelised yoghurt; Barrel-aged feta Saganaki, cherry tomato jam, Roasted beetroot, labneh, carob vinaigrette, dukkha; Baked gigandes beans, smoked Metsovone cheese; and the Tomato & goat’s cheese fritters, pickled okra tempura with Greek yoghurt.
The desserts are also crowd-pleasers, with the Semolina cake with cardamom syrup, pistachios, candied pumpkin, and yoghurt mousse; Loukoumades with mountain tea syrup, poppy seed custard; and a selection of traditional Greek cheeses being the ideal way to end a meal here.
The eatery serves 80 people across three floors. On the ground level is a sleek and stylish wine bar with tables for two and four, above there's a sky-lit mezzanine, plus a more intimate and private dining area downstairs.
