The European Parliament invites citizens to submit or nominate a project for this year’s European Citizen Prize.

The European Citizen’s Prize recognises initiatives that contribute to EU cooperation and the promotion of common values. Are you involved in or know of such a project?

Awarded every year by the European Parliament, the prize goes to projects organised by people or organisations that encourage:

  • Mutual understanding and closer integration between people in the EU
  • Cross-border cooperation that builds a stronger European spirit
  • EU values and fundamental rights

Among the 2021 winners was the Greek NGO, the Hellenic Society for the Protection and Rehabilitation of Disabled People (ELEPAP).

ELEPAP was the first charitable, non-profit association to be set up in Greece. For 84 years, it has been helping to rehabilitate over 100 000 children with motor disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders.

It has six fully equipped branches in various locations in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Chania, Ioannina, Volos and Agrinio). It currently provides assistance for high-risk infants, toddlers, children of school age and adults with acquired brain damage, offering therapy, education and medical supervision. At the same time, it provides guidance and counselling for their families.

ELEPAP helps children to realise their potential in order to become integrated within society and the mainstream education system. Over 60% of the children in their recognised special pre-school education establishments are admitted to primary school.

Over 1 000 infants, children and adults throughout Greece participate every day in ELEPAP’s integrated rehabilitation programmes.

How to apply
People, groups, associations or organisations can apply with a project for the European Citizen’s Prize or can nominate a project. MEPs can also submit a nomination.

As this year is the European Year of Youth, special consideration will be given to projects carried out by our young Europeans or projects dealing with youth.

To apply or nominate a project please use this form. For more information, write to CitizensPrize@ep.europa.eu.
