Greek citizens begin evacuating from Mariupol, Russian forces guarantee safe passage

Greeks evacuate Mariupol

The evacuation of the Consulate General of Mariupol, as well as Greek citizens, has begun according to diplomatic sources quoted by Proto Thema.

The convoy led by Ambassador Frangiskos Kostelenos departed by road from the besieged Ukrainian port city of Mariupol.

The plan to escape from Mariupol was decided at a meeting of the local Greek authorities and the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the city has been surrounded by Russian forces coming towards its centre.

According to the plan, a convoy with at least 15 cars are leaving a safe road to Zaporiza, with a final destination to Romania.

The convoy of vehicles has guarantees from Russian forces that it will arrive safely.

At the same time, the neo-Nazi, independent nuclei of paramilitary Ukrainians , who have nothing to do with the government or the army, warn that "they will not let anyone go."

Meanwhile, as Russian forces close in on Mariupol, in which live in the city and its surrounding villages 120,000+ ethnic Greeks, 100 residents have been injured in Russian airstrikes, said the city's mayor.
