Russian Embassy warning: "In context of unprecedented propaganda campaign in Greece, take precautions"

The Russian Embassy in Athens in a Telegram post warned Russians to exercise caution in face of "the propaganda campaign unleashed in the local media against our country."

"In the context of the unprecedented anti-Russian rhetoric from Greek officials and the propaganda campaign unleashed in the local media against our country, there are risks for the security of Russian citizens in Greece, primarily tourists," the post said.

"We urge you to be vigilant, take precautions, avoid unnecessary movements and immediately contact the Greek law enforcement authorities regarding possible threats, provocations and actions against personal safety," the Telegram notification added.

It also included the contact details of the Embassy:

Embassy phone numbers: (+30) 210 67 25 235, (+30) 210 67 26 130; (+30) 6958 000 123;

Email: embraf@otenet.gr

There is no credible threat to the safety of Russians in Greece, however, it can be seen as the first move of discrediting Greek tourism following the decision of the Mitsotakis government to send weapons to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Stanislav Osadchiy, Russia’s Ambassador to Cyprus, said in an interview with a local media outlet, that the Republic of Cyprus "shot themselves in the foot" for imposing sanctions on his country over its invasion of Ukraine have

Osadchiy said that Russian tourist will not show up in Cyprus in the summer and that they will go to Turkey instead.

“If you ask me personally, (economic sanctions) do not worry us," said Osadchiy in fluent Greek in a clip from the interview posted on twitter by Yiota Hadjicosta, a journalist with Cyprus’ Politis newspaper.

"Unfortunately, I think Europeans are shooting themselves in the foot.

"Where will they find natural gas, oil, wheat, how will Cyprus get Russian tourists?

"Russian tourists will not come.

"Where will these tourists go? They’ll go to Turkey, you want that? They’ll spend money there.

"Summer is coming.

"You have shut down Cyprus’ airspace? You have shot yourselves in the foot."
