Former MEP Chrysogonos: The ban on Sputnik and RT is extremely problematic

On Sunday, February 27, it was announced that the operation of Sputnik and Russia Today will be banned in all EU member states.

Professor in constitutional law and former SYRIZA Member of the European Parliament, Kostas Chrysogonos, explained why the ban on Sputnik and RT decided by the EU is not allowed.

This is by both the Constitution of Greece (s.s. Article 14 on Freedom of the Press) and by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union itself.

The whole statement of Chrysogonis

"The ban on the operation of the media is a very problematic precautionary measure both from the point of view of the Greek Constitution (Article 14) and from the point of view of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

"As one-sided or biased as it is a means, its existence nevertheless contributes to the preservation of a wider pluralism in the sources of information.

"Both the national and the EU legal order have mechanisms in place to impose repressive sanctions in the event that a media outlet is found to be promoting racism or inciting violence."
