Greece's national postal service, Hellenic Post (ELTA) announced the temporary suspension of its commercial information systems for all post offices due to a malware cyber attack last night.

According to a statement, ELTA "faced a cyber attack on their information systems last night through malware. The immediate response from officials was to limit the damage and prevent the spread of the attack. We have been informed immediately and are working closely with all relevant government authorities as well as with IT companies specializing in cybersecurity.

"For reasons of prevention and safety and until all the relevant processes are completed, it was decided to isolate the company's entire data centre. Therefore, we announce the temporary suspension of the commercial information system of all post offices and there will be, later in the day, new information to the public and our customers."

In conclusion, ELTA apologised for the temporary inconvenience, noting it was due to the actions of cybercriminals and assured that all possible efforts are being made for a quick return to normalcy.
